Schwartz to pen X-Men spin-off


Black Book, via Dark Horizons, indicates that Josh Schwartz, producer and creator of television series The O.C. and Gossip Girl, will pen one of the X-Men spin-off scripts. With its title currently unknown, the movie will focus on the students of Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. “I’m very well aware that I’ll be bludgeoned by purists, but I love its mythology, and it comes with a pretty hefty paycheck,” comments Schwartz. “It’s not like I’m adding new characters like Toaster Head, or anything like that.”

Marvel Heroes Collection announced


Fox Home Entertainment will release Marvel Heroes Collection on May 13, says DVDActive. The set will include X-Men, X2: X-Men United Special Edition, X-Men 3: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes - Volume 1, Elektra and Daredevil DVDs. A Marvel exclusive flipbook and CD-Rom comic The Origin of the Silver Surfer will also be combined with the package.

Ashmore not hopeful about X-Men 4


During an interview with Shock ‘Till You Drop, Shawn Ashmore, who played Bobby Drake/Iceman in the X-Men trilogy, provided his thoughts on the possibility of X-Men 4 happening. “I would love to do another film, but I think they’re doing these spin-offs and origin stories, so I can’t see in the near future there being an X-Men 4 but I have no idea to tell you the truth, it’s really hard to say,” the actor admits.

Penn mightier than the sword


New York Magazine places screenwriter-director Zak Penn, scribe for such movies as Last Action Hero and the latter two chapters of the X-Men trilogy, into the spotlight. The piece investigates the career evolution of Penn, who is currently promoting his latest directorial project, the poker comedy The Grand.

Durand to play Blob in Wolverine


Film School Rejects has the scoop that 3:10 to Yuma star Kevin Durand will play The Blob in X-Men Origins : Wolverine. Apparently, Durand was “live-scanned” for the character a while back, but has just officially signed on to the project in recent days.

Monaghan, Henney join Wolverine


The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Dominic Monaghan and Daniel Henney are set to appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. “Monaghan will play Barnell, a former military ally of Logan with the power to harness energy and electricity. Henney will play Agent Zero, a fellow member of the Weapon X program and an expert tracker with lethal, mutant-enhanced marksman skills.”
