Early review for Where the Wild Things Are


Ain’t It Cool News has posted a reader’s response to the widespread rumor that Warner Bros. may drastically retool Spike Jonze’s adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are. The article features a highly positive early review of the picture. In favor of cast and crew behind Where the Wild Things Are, “Cinemaniac1979″ writes, “I can’t imagine how hard it must be to make such a deeply personal film and have it shredded for the sake of slapping some cartoon monsters on lunch boxes.”

Another Last Starfighter?


Cinema Blend has the scoop that a sequel to The Last Starfighter is being developed. Apparently the production company George Paige and Associates is working on the project, with Warner Brothers and Universal Pictures set to distribute it. The report adds that director Nick Castle, writer Jonathan Betuel and actor Lance Guest - all of whom were involved with the first Starfighter - are involved with the sequel, which reportedly contains a “Son of the Starfighter storyline.”

Justice League to arrive in 2009


With the Writers Guild of America strike settled, Warner Bros. is quickly moving forward with a film adaptation of Justice League of America, to be released in 2009. Kieran and Michele Mulroney are polishing the project’s screenplay, as George Miller prepares to direct the picture. The cast for Justice League includes Adam Brody as Flash, Common as Green Lantern, Armie Hammer Jr. as Batman, and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman. Variety has the story.

Silk, Gilchrist join Lin Pictures


Dan Lin and his Warner Bros.-based shingle Lin Pictures have named Jon Silk as VP of production and Stephen Gilchrist as director of development, pens Variety. The duo will assist in finding and developing projects for Lin. Films currently being overseen by Lin include George Miller’s Justice League, Richard Kelly’s The Box, and Robert Rodriguez’s Shorts.

Warner Bros. eyes Akira franchise


According to Variety, Warner Bros. will turn anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s six-volume graphic novel Akira into two live-action feature films. The first picture, to be based on the first three books of the series, is being aimed for summer 2009. Ruairi Robinson will direct a script by Gary Whitta. Andrew Lazar’s Mad Chance will produce the Akira movies alongside Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson.

Big Screen Roundup: 2/1/08 Edition



MTV has the third image from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to debut this week. The picture features Jones at the government warehouse from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It appears Disney has big plans to extend its National Treasure franchise. Jim Hill Media suggests that the series could have third and fourth installments, as well as a theme park attraction. Interestingly, the article even offers a possible synopsis for National Treasure 3, which may “send the Gates family off to Easter Island and beyond in search of Atlantis. More importantly, the pure, clean power source that was supposedly lost forever when this ancient civilization sank beneath the sea. Which - were it to be harnessed today - would immediately put an end to global warming. Not to mention making gas and oil obsolete.”

Showcasing a new image from the highly anticipated film, Empire speaks with producer Frank Marshall about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. According to Marshall, the movie is already locked and ready for John Williams’ score.

Variety notes that Oliver Stone has found funding for his next directorial project, Bush, to focus on the life of current U.S. President George W. Bush. Helping make the film a reality is QED, the production/financing company started three years ago by Bill Block, Paul Hanson and Elliot Ferwerda. QED will sell offshore territories next week at the European Film Market in Berlin, with domestic distribution expected to arrive shortly afterward.
