New Dark Knight trailer description


At the New York Comic Con, Warner Bros. surprised attendees with a brand-new trailer for The Dark Knight. Until the trailer makes its widespread debut in two weeks, MTV Movies Blog describes highlights from the ad. It is worth noting that Harvey Dent has a considerable amount of screen time in the trailer, in which he emphatically states the memorable line, “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

Pixar, Warner Bros. travel to Pompeii ruins


SlashFilm notices that in Newsweek, Campania’s new regional heritage councilor, Claudio Velardi, mentioned that Pixar and Warner Bros. are interested in using the ruins of Pompeii for a future movie set. It is known that the two studios are collaborating on Brad Bird’s 1906. However, the book upon which that movie is based does not contain a scene set in the Pompeii ruins. Thus, speculation has begun regarding a possible second collaboration between Warner Bros. and Pixar.

Joker scenes safe in Dark Knight?


In response to the news that a Dark Knight scene with The Joker had disturbed audiences to the point where Warner Bros. is considering removing it, Moviehole provides an update. The site’s source writes, “I KNOW for a fact that that scene is in the film. I also know that WB has made no such mandate and that Chris [Nolan] is honest when saying that he will not change what was intended with The Joker.”

Tobolowsky denies Alfred role in Justice League


Moviehole settles the rumor that Stephen Tobolowsky will play the butler Alfred Pennyworth in George Miller’s Justice League. The actor notes that he has not been approached for the role, admitting that he is not even sure how the rumor began. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. mentions that the studio has yet to receive the screenplay for Justice League, with a draft expected to arrive in two months.

Dark Knight viral campaign continues


Warner Bros. has recently introduced numerous new websites related to the upcoming Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight. The sites include The Gotham Times, a Drudge-like Maiden Avenue Report, Gotham Cable News, one in support of Dana Worthington for D.A., Citizens for Batman, The Gotham City Advocates Foundation and St. Swithun’s Church.

Warner hires Genius of Unspeakable Evil


Warner Bros. has picked up the movie rights to the book I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President, indicates The Hollywood Reporter. Josh Lieb, who authored the book, will adapt it as well, with McG producing via his Wonderland Sound and Vision shingle.

“The premise centers on a chubby 13-year old boy who everybody assumes is the dumbest kid in the seventh grade. He really is an evil genius and the third-richest person on the planet, with a secret compound beneath his unsuspecting family’s modest suburban home. He hides his identity to keep himself safe from his enemies and because he can’t legally claim his empire until he turns 18.”

Clowns put ‘dent’ in political campaign


As many folks know, a false political campaign for The Dark Knight character Harvey Dent has been spreading online and offline, with the Dentmobile being seen around the U.S. Now, word arrives via /Film that not everyone is pleased with Dent’s run to be district attorney of Gotham City. The site shows a group of clowns holding signs that read “Dent is Two-Faced”, “Your Future Decided With a Coin Flip” and “Change We Can’t Believe In”. Could this assembly represent authentic goons for The Joker, as part of Warner Bros.’ marketing? Or is the group simply composed of fans for the upcoming Batman feature?

Eastwood to direct, star in Gran Torino


Clint Eastwood will direct and star in Gran Torino for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures, reports Variety. The movie is scheduled to be released this December. Details of the plot for Torino are under tight security. In fact, it is unknown if the movie has already begun production.

Lima to helm Spook’s Apprentice


According to Variety, Warner Bros. and Legendary have signed up Enchanted director Kevin Lima to tackle The Spook’s Apprentice. The movie will be an adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s children’s tome regarding “a 13-year-old boy who learns about wizardry from a forbidding old spook.” Basil Iwanyk, Lionel Wigram and Lima’s producing partner, Chris Chase, will produce the picture. Alysia Cotter will executive produce.

Warner eyes Cyclops


Director James Mangold will bring the Alexis Nolent graphic novel Cyclops to the big screen, for Warner Bros. Cathy Konrad and Alexandra Milchan will produce the pic. “Set in the near future, the actioner concerns mercenary forces whose soldiers wear Cyclops-like cameras in their helmets and broadcast in real time to both central command and living rooms. One mercenary chosen to lead an elite squad begins to realize he isn’t fighting for freedom and justice as much as for commerce.”

Brid flies to 1906


The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the live-action 1906 is moving forward, with Ratatouille director Brad Bird set to helm the film. The feature will be a co-production between Warner Bros. and Disney/Pixar. “The story centers on a college student who begins to investigate the murder of his father, uncovering a web of deceit that has left the city vulnerable to the sort of fire that breaks out when the Great Earthquake of 1906 hits San Francisco.”

Numbers lowering for 10,000 B.C. box office


According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, box office numbers for yesterday’s matinée screenings of 10,000 B.C. were “good but not great.” As a result, industry insiders are lowering their projections for the $150 million Warner Bros. picture toward somewhere near $30 million.

Warner Bros. has funny Bone


Warner Bros. has acquired the rights for a film version of Bone, the critically acclaimed independent comic book series from artist Jeff Smith. The Hollywood Reporter summarizes, “The fantasy series followed three cousins from the Bone family who are small, white and bald humanlike creatures with big noses. The trio are run out of their hometown and find themselves in a mysterious valley where they are separated and hunted by other creatures. They are taken in by a girl named Thorn and her grandmother, and find out that the valley is threatened by an evil force called the Lord of the Locusts.” It has yet to be decided if the Bone picture will be live-action or animated or both.

DiCaprio, Monahan chasing The Chaser?


Yesterday, it was reported that Warner Bros. has acquired the remake rights for the Koren thriller The Chaser. Now word arrives via The Hollywood Reporter that William Monahan is in discussions to adapt the project. Meanwhile, it seems Leonardo DiCaprio could land its leading role of “an ex-cop who goes on the warpath trying to find a missing girl. The girl, who may or may not be alive, is being used by a serial killer to taunt the police.”

Warner Bros. catches Chaser


Warner Bros. has acquired the remake rights to the South Korean hit The Chaser, for $1 million plus various incentives based on the remake’s box office performance. Kim Su-jin, head of production house Bidangil Pictures, will also receive a co-production credit. Variety breaks down the news.

Seth Rogen hired to Observe and Report


For Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, Seth Rogen will star in the comedy Observe and Report, broadcasts Variety. Written and to be directed by Jody Hill, the synopsis for the project “centers on Ronnie Barnhardt, a deluded, self-important head of mall security who squares off in a turf war against the local cops.”

Shaye, Lynne out at New Line


Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne will leave their posts as co-chairmen and co-CEOs of New Line Cinema, as part of a consolidation of Time Warner’s film operations. The duo are “in discussions about possible future business relationships with the company,” Time Warner added. Meanwhile, New Line will maintain separate development, production, marketing, distribution and business affairs operations from Warner Bros. Entertainment. Nonetheless, Time Warner explained that New Line will “closely integrate and coordinate those functions with Warner Bros. to maximize film performance and operating efficiencies, achieve significant cost savings, and improve margins.” The Hollywood Reporter has more on this report.
