Coming Soon has the one-sheet for Walt Disney Pictures’ Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Directed by Raja Gosnell, the movie will traverse into theaters on September 26. Chihuahua’s cast includes Piper Perabo, Manolo Cardona and Jamie Lee Curtis, and features the voices of Andy Garcia, Placido Domingo, George Lopez, Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos, Paul Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Piolin and Drew Barrymore.
Stern is Self-Guided for Disney
Walt Disney Pictures has acquired the spec Self-Guided from scribe Jared Stern, records The Hollywood Reporter. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce the picture via Mandeville Films. “The story centers on a man who magically goes back to high school as a guidance counselor to give advice to his younger self.” Disney exec Kristin Burr will oversee Self-Guided.
Disney’s Stan Lee projects announced
Variety unveils the first three projects coming from Walt Disney Pictures’ alliance with Stan Lee. First is the film Nick Ratchet, written and directed by Richard LaGravenese, with Larry Jacobson and Sonny Grosso in talks to produce. Next is Blaze, penned by Gary Goldman. As for the third movie, Tigress from scribe Zoe Green will be produced by State Street Pictures’ Robert Teitel and George Tillman. Each project will be executive produced by Lee and Gill Champion via their POW! Entertainment.
There Will Be Muppets?
CHUD delivers the news regarding what type of Muppet film Jason Segel and Nick Stoller will be creating for Walt Disney Pictures. It seems the movie will be “old fashioned,” with the characters creating a show to save their theater from a villain who wants to tear it down to get the oil underneath.
Elliott, Rossio resurrecting Lone Ranger
Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, in association with Entertainment Rights, are preparing a new big-screen adventure for The Lone Ranger, The Hollywood Reporter records. Writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, who contributed heavily to the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, will pen the project. Bruckheimer Films’ Mike Stenson and Chad Oman will executive produce Ranger, with Jason Reed overseeing at Disney.
Disney doing different high school musical
Steven Antin has been hired by Walt Disney Pictures to write and direct an untitled music-driven project, to be produced by Scott Sanders and executive produced by Mara Jacobs. Although he will not reveal the title and plot of the picture, at the request of Disney, Antin admitted, “It’s a music-driven movie set in a high school, geared toward a Disney audience.” Variety has the report.
Is David Zandi the Prince of Persia?
IESB has acquired a casting report for Walt Disney Pictures’ film adaptation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The research for the report included five questions, asked to both worldwide and American audiences. In both tests, it appears that David Zandi was the favorite option.
Prince Caspian Prague set visit
Moriarty at Ain’t It Cool News summarizes his trip to the Prague locations for Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. His recollection involves much of the film’s technical side, from special effects to costumes, though observing the tone and scope of Caspian. Moriarty adds, “These filmmakers were already deep into the prep for the next film, already cutting sequences as they shot, always moving towards the next set-up. It seems to me that they are in the Narnia business in a big way, and that they have a very strong idea of how they want these films to look and feel. That’s got to be encouraging for fans of the novels.”
Segel, Stoller to craft next Muppet movie
Actor-writer Jason Segel will co-write the next Muppet movie with Nick Stoller for Walt Disney Pictures, reports Variety. Stoller is also expected to direct the project. The duo recently collaborated on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, hitting theaters on April 18.
Newell to takes Persia to Morocco
Variety reports that Mike Newell will direct Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in Morocco, for Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Based on the successful video game franchise, the live-action action-adventure project was penned by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow) and game creator Jordan Mechner.
Behind-the-scenes of Prince Caspian
A brand-new behind-the-scenes presentation for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian has been placed at YouTube. The clip showcases reminders of the previous chapter in the franchise, The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe, while revealing the darker tone of the anticipated sequel. From Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media, Prince Caspian will arrive in theaters nationwide on May 16.
More Tron, Pirates, Cars, Treasure rumored for 2011
Ain’t It Cool News has the scoop that Walt Disney Pictures is planning to unleash sequels to Tron, Pirates of the Caribbean, Cars and National Treasure in 2011. Regarding the fourth Pirates adventure, the article informs, “Some indications suggest the film’s story would be far more contained than its predecessors, allowing for a budget-friendly downsizing. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there’s been unsubstantiated talk that a fourth film would go the other way completely… think in terms of ultra fantastical (dinosaurs, Jules Verne-esque floating fortresses, etc.)”
Contemplating the transition to 3-D
The Hollywood Reporter summarizes a presentation focused on theaters’ transition to 3-D systems, held Wednesday at the Hollywood Post Alliance’s annual Technology Retreat. As the amount of 3-D films increases, the cost and reason of updating cinemas to accompany those movies is examined.
On a side note, the article reports that Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ live-action/CG feature G-Force will be a 3-D stereoscopic film.
