Overture, Paramount to distribute Fahrenheit sequel


Michael Moore is planning to release his sequel to Fahrenheit 9/11, an examination of President George W. Bush, in mid-2009. Overture will distribute the documentary domestically, while Paramount Vantage will deliver it to international territories. The two companies are likewise co-financing and co-producing the pic. The untitled sequel’s distribution marks a change for Moore, whose previous two pictures were carried by The Weinstein Co. SlashFilm has the complete story.

Fans not pleased with Fanboys decision


The Weinstein Co. has announced that it will release two versions of the film Fanboys. That decision, however, is not pleasing all fans, writes The Hollywood Reporter. It seems that many of them are upset with Weinstein’s choice to edit and reshoot a percentage of Fanboys. One particular item of the feature that has been cut involves one of the characters having cancer. “Harvey feels it’s hard to market, especially with this cast,” clarified an insider. “He wants to market to a more teen audience. The filmmakers wanted a dramedy along the vein of Stand by Me.”

Weinstein Co. has a Sundream


The Weinstein Co. and Hong Kong-based Sundream Motion Pictures are teaming on an output deal, notes Variety. Sundream will get access to TWC’s current slate of movies, from which the two companies will jointly select titles with theatrical potential in the territory. The first films to be released via the deal will probably be The Band’s Visit, Teeth and Sicko, with The Elite Squad and Superhero set for later this year.
