Spielberg to shoot Lincoln in 2009
Steven Spielberg has revealed he will begin shooting his film on U.S. president Abraham Lincoln, at the start of 2009. According to Screen Daily, the director wants the movie to “open in the same year as Lincoln’s 200th anniversary”. Meanwhile, Spielberg still wants to make Chicago Seven, which would focus on the famous 1960s trial of the protesters at the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago. However, it seems that the project’s screenplay is not quite ready.
New Indiana Jones, Dark Knight trailers
The latest trailer for Steven Spielberg and Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull may now be viewed at the film’s official site. Likewise, the newest trailer for the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight, has arrived at Why So Serious? Spielberg, Abrams collaborated on Trek
TrekMovie.com dishes the latest details on J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. Interestingly, screenwriter Roberto Orci has revealed that Steven Spielberg had a part in convincing J.J. Abrams to direct the pic. Likewise, Spielberg visited the set of Trek during shooting scenes on the Enterprise and helped Abrams develop an action sequence. It has also been confirmed that Trek will carry a PG-13 rating, with Screen Rant adding that the picture’s budget will be considerably less than $200 million.
Darabont on Indiana Jones rejection
Frank Darabont submitted a screenplay to George Lucas and Steven Spielberg for the fourth Indiana Jones picture. Although the script was rejected by Lucas, it appears that parts of it were still adapted for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Thus, will Darabont be named in the film’s credits? “Nope. Not on this one,” Darabont admits to MTV. “I know there are some common elements to what I gave Steven [Spielberg] and what was eventually shot, but I guess not enough to warrant credit. It’s clearly a disappointment, especially after Steven loved my script.” On possibly working with Lucas again, the director/scribe notes, “Honestly our storytelling sensibilities have diverged to the point where that would be a pointless exercise.”
Thomas Sangster is Tintin?
According to Daily Mail, Thomas Sangster, age 17, has been cast as comic book hero Tintin in a trilogy of films from directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. The actor recently traveled to Los Angeles to work on preproduction test sequences with both filmmakers. “Thomas seems to be the one,” an executive who worked with Sangster in Los Angeles told the site. “He was just great, but I’m not certain if anything has been finalised yet.”
