Study examines profanity in PG-rated pics
A new study by The Nielsen Co. has discovered that PG-rated movies with the least profanity usually make the most money domestically, records Yahoo!/Associated Press. Interestingly, sexuality or violence in those films had less to do with box office success than language. “The reality is that profanity, within PG, is the big demarcation between box office winner and box office loser,” research and marketing director Dan O’Toole said at ShoWest.

ShoWest attendees maintain bright outlook
Things look hopeful for this year’s ShoWest, which began yesterday and will run through Thursday at Bally’s and Paris hotels, Las Vegas. As The Hollywood Reporter notices, optimism is in the air at the event. One provider of such energy is Rory Bruer, president of Sony Pictures Releasing, who commented “The state of the business is really healthy. Last year you had an up year, and this year so far is an up year. It’s all headed in the right direction. What is really good about our business is, in both the distribution world and the exhibition world, everybody is continuing to up their game.”
