MGM draws Circle


Variety reports that MGM has purchased the film rights to The Matarese Circle for $3 million. Another seven-figures will be paid to screenwriters Michael Brandt and Derek Haas to adapt the 1979 Robert Ludlum novel. Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media will co-finance Circle. Jeffrey Weiner, who runs the Ludlum estate, will produce with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler. Denzel Washington is attached to star in the picture.

Ingelsby sets bar high with Low


Variety notices the remarkable transition in the life of Brad Ingelsby. The 27-year old began last week as an insurance salesman who lives with his parents, but became a rich screenwriter by Thursday. Outbidding four studios, Relativity Media gave $650,000 against $1.1 million for Ingelsby’s The Low Dweller, described as “a dark drama set in 1986 in Indiana.” Ridley Scott will helm the pic, with Leonardo DiCaprio starring in it.

Zahn finds Perfect Getaway


Steve Zahn will star in writer-director David Twohy’s action thriller A Perfect Getaway, shows The Hollywood Reporter. From MGM/Relativity Media, the feature involves “two newlyweds on their honeymoon in Hawaii who run into two hikers who turn out to be vicious killers.” Zahn will portray part of the honeymoon couple, while Timothy Olyphant has been cast as one of the hikers.
