Overture, Paramount to distribute Fahrenheit sequel
Michael Moore is planning to release his sequel to Fahrenheit 9/11, an examination of President George W. Bush, in mid-2009. Overture will distribute the documentary domestically, while Paramount Vantage will deliver it to international territories. The two companies are likewise co-financing and co-producing the pic. The untitled sequel’s distribution marks a change for Moore, whose previous two pictures were carried by The Weinstein Co. SlashFilm has the complete story.
Brewer takes on Gang Leader for a Day
Paramount Vantage has optioned the Sudhir Venkatesh book Gang Leader for a Day, reports Variety. The film adaptation will be directed by Craig Brewer and written by Michael Caleo. Venkatesh’s Gang Leader for a Day: A Rogue Sociologist Takes to the Streets “recounted years he spent chronicling a crack-dealing gang in Chicago for a research project. He befriended the Black Kings and their leader and was invited to observe close up. Venkatesh found a close-knit group whose corporate culture was much like that of a successful legitimate business. Venkatesh was given the job of calling the shots of the criminal enterprise for a day.”
Paramount turns to Beat Kip
Paramount Vantage has optioned the screenplay for Beat Kip, penned by Summer of Tears comedy troupe co-founders Todd Waldman and Rob Kerkovich. The studio will develop the movie with Comedy Central. “Kip follows three struggling college graduates who find a purpose in life: to travel across the country to fight an Ivy League student who stole one of their girlfriends.” The Hollywood Reporter has the story.
