Iron Man to return in 2010?


As Coming Soon notes, Entertainment Tonight learned some exciting Iron Man news at the film’s premiere. According to Viacom and CBS Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey, if the action pic does as well as expected, its sequel will likely arrive in 2010.

NHL, Paramount partner on Love Guru


Coming Soon carries the announcement from the National Hockey League (NHL) that it is teaming with Paramount Pictures to promote the new Mike Myers comedy film The Love Guru. Part of the feature’s plot involves “the Toronto Maple Leafs’ pursuit of the Stanley Cup under the guidance of the Guru Pitka, a self-help spiritualist played by Myers.” Guru is due in theaters on June 20.

In preparation for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Paramount Pictures has unleashed a brand-new contest in which one lucky lady will meet Shia LaBeouf at a taping of MTV’s TRL. Take a “Vacation with Pitka”!


The official website for The Love Guru now allows visitors to upload pictures of themselves, which will then be integrated with images of Guru Pitka. The resulting photograph is a souvenir from one’s own imaginary adventure with the Mike Myers character. To see an example of such a photograph, as provided by Paramount Pictures, please click here.

Meanwhile, Guru Pitka has set up his own MySpace page. One of the most humorous aspects of the page is the gallery showcasing him with celebrities of the past and present.

Paramount, Pitt discover Lost City


Paramount Pictures has preemptively purchased the David Grann manuscript Lost City of Z. In addition to producing the feature through his Plan B shingle, Brad Pitt may star in the picture as well. Lost City of Z focuses on “British explorer Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett, who was attempting to find the so-called City of Z when he and his party disappeared in 1925. Over the next 70 years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett’s path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers.” Variety delivers the news.

Raimi to reintroduce Jack Ryan


Sam Raimi may spearhead a franchise revival for Jack Ryan, the Tom Clancy-created CIA analyst, at Paramount Pictures, says Variety. Under the assignment, Raimi would develop and direct a series of films, produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Raimi’s Buckaroo Entertainment partner Josh Donen. Apparently, the plan for Ryan’s reintroduction would involve a younger, more formative point in the agent’s career than what audiences have previously seen.

Berg to direct new Dune pic


According to Variety, Peter Berg will helm a film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune for Paramount Pictures. After spending the past year obtaining the book’s rights from the Herbert estate, Kevin Misher will produce the picture. “Herbert’s 1965 novel is a sweeping, futuristic tale set on the remote desert planet Arrakis, which produces the interstellar empire’s sole source of the spice Melange - used for distant space travel. An empirewide power struggle ensues over the control of the spice.”

Raimi visits Zoo for Paramount


Paramount Pictures is developing a movie adaptation of Monster Zoo, an upcoming graphic novel by Douglas TenNapel. Buckaroo Entertainment’s Sam Raimi and Josh Donen will produce with Ellen Goldsmith Vein of Gotham Group. Zoo tells the tale of “a young boy who discovers his local zoo contains critters much more frightening than the ordinary collection.” Variety has the story.

Ratner to helm Harbinger


Paramount Pictures has acquired rights to turn the Valiant Comics series Harbinger into a live-action flick for director Brett Ratner, says Variety. Possibly released under the MTV Films banner, the picture will be produced by Ratner, Alexandra Milchan and Jay Stern. For folks unacquainted with the comic series, the article explains, “Harbingers are humans with powers that can be unlocked by ‘omega’ harbingers. Teenager Pete Stanchek finds himself on a collision course with an older ‘omega’ who used his gifts to become an evil industrialist.”

Tenor Paul Potts to be subject of Paramount feature


Paramount Pictures will develop a film on the overnight success story of Paul Potts, the tenor who sold cell phones before winning ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent in 2007. Talent creator and judge Simon Cowell will produce the film with Relevant Entertainment’s Michael Menchel and Steve Whitney. Variety has the story.
