Producer Johnson talks fourth Narnia feature
Producer Mark Johnson tells MTV Movies Blog that he has a list of potential directors for the fourth Chronicles of Narnia installment, The Silver Chair. As with the Harry Potter movies, Johnson believes each picture could be helmed by a different filmmaker. However, there has recently been talk that Disney and Walden Media’s Narnia film franchise may end with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Hannah Montana movie title? Camp Rock 2?
Jim Hill Media notices some of the recent domain names Disney has purchased, fueling speculation about the studio’s plans for its Disney Channel properties. For instance, a list of possible subtitles for the Hannah Montana movie has been discovered: Family Reunion, Welcome Home, Off the Charts, Ultimate Choice, Where It All Began, Cross-Country Adventure and Old Friends, New Beginnings.
Meanwhile, it appears that even though Camp Rock is still months away from its television premiere, a sequel is already being planned. As for the Jonas Brothers, Joe, Nick and Kevin are preparing for a 3-D concert film in the spirit of Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour.

Danny DeVito will try to woo Kristen Bell in Disney’s romantic comedy When in Rome, writes The Hollywood Reporter. The actor joins a cast that already includes Will Arnett, Josh Duhamel, Jon Heder, Anjelica Huston and Dax Shepard. Directed by Mark Steven Johnson, Rome “centers on a love-starved New York curator (Bell) who steals magical coins from a famous Roman fountain but soon finds herself in a bizarre situation when she is pursued back to New York by a band of aggressive suitors — the very people whose coins she took.”
Is Jake Gyllenhaal the Prince of Persia?
Following the revelation that Orlando Bloom has not landed the leading role in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Latino Review has the scoop that Jake Gyllenhaal has been offered the part. If Gyllenhaal accepts Disney’s offer, he will portray Dastan in the Jerry Bruckheimer production.
Arnett heads to Rome
Will Arnett has joined the cast of Disney’s When in Rome, Yahoo!/Reuters reports. In the romantic comedy, Kristen Bell plays “a love-starved New York curator who steals magical coins from the Trevi Fountain in Rome but soon finds herself in a bizarre situation when she is pursued back to New York by a band of aggressive suitors whose coins she took.” Arnett will play one of the suitors, an Italian artist.
Prokop, Martin, Brown enroll in High School
Yahoo! Entertainment writes that Matt Prokop, Justin Martin, and Jemma McKenzie-Brown have joined the cast of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. The three actors were chosen from an international casting search involving over 1,000 teen actors across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. For the third chapter in Disney’s blockbuster series, Prokop, Martin and Brown will play sophomore “Wildcats”.
Disney leaving Narnia for Mars?
According to Jim Hill Media, Disney’s enthusiasm for turning all seven installments of The Chronicles of Narnia into movies is beginning to diminish. If the upcoming film adaptations for Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader fail to bring in the cash Disney desires, the company may turn away from Narnia and look toward a new franchise: John Carter of Mars.
Brid flies to 1906
The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the live-action 1906 is moving forward, with Ratatouille director Brad Bird set to helm the film. The feature will be a co-production between Warner Bros. and Disney/Pixar. “The story centers on a college student who begins to investigate the murder of his father, uncovering a web of deceit that has left the city vulnerable to the sort of fire that breaks out when the Great Earthquake of 1906 hits San Francisco.”
Disney defends Path to 9/11 DVD decision
Disney’s decision not to release the controversial miniseries The Path to 9/11 on DVD has received strong reactions from the company’s shareholders. In 2006, Path aired on Disney’s ABC network, with the television event being critical of President Bill Clinton’s handling of terrorist threats. At Disney’s annual shareholders’ meeting in Albuquerque, N.M., Tom Borelli, one mutual fund portfolio manager, said it was time Disney released Path on DVD and recouped some of its $40 million budget. Borelli also accused company CEO Robert Iger of holding back the miniseries’ DVD release in order to protect Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign at the expense of shareholders, noting that Iger has been a steady Clinton donor since before the former first lady was elected to the Senate. In response, Iger assured the shareholder that his Path decision was based purely on business considerations and not on politics. Yahoo/Reuters has the story.
Hinds, Ludwig join Race to Witch Mountain
Ciaran Hinds (HBO’s Rome) and Alexander Ludwig (The Seeker) are joining Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and AnnaSophia Robb for Race to Witch Mountain, Disney’s reimagining of its 1975 adventure Escape to Witch Mountain. Andy Fickman is on board to direct the picture, which is being described as “an action thriller.” The Hollywood Reporter has the story.
High School Musical reality series, sequel news
ABC is developing a multi-episode reality competition inspired by Disney’s High School Musical, reports Variety. The series will center on a nationwide talent search followed by “a group of contestants studying at a music conservatory to hone their skills.” Contestants will be eliminated each week, until a winning performer is chosen. Planning to air the Musical reality show this summer, ABC has yet to reveal the prize for the contest winner.
In other High School Musical news, an updated synopsis and official logo for the franchise’s third film, Senior Year, has made its way to Ashley-T.com.

With the success of Step Up 2 the Streets, Disney is looking to place another installment into the hit franchise with Step Up 3-D, writes Variety. Jon Chu, who helmed Step Up 2, is in talks to direct the third picture. Offspring Entertainment partners Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot will develop the film, as they did its predecessors.
