People gets ‘Luck’-y with Sinatra contest
To turn up the heat for the release of Warner Home Video’s 10th Anniversary Frank Sinatra DVD collections, People Magazine has created a “Luck Be A Beautiful Lady” custom contest. The sweepstakes will run exclusively within the magazine’s “World’s Most Beautiful” special issue and online at People.com. The Grand Prize winner will receive a trip for four to Las Vegas, complete with their own “beautiful lady” and “rat pack.”

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has unveiled its DVD and Blu-ray plans for Lost: The Complete Fourth Season - The Expanded Experience, as reported by DVDActive. The sets will contain the following bonus features: bloopers, audio commentaries, deleted scenes, “Lost on Location,” “Freighter Folk,” “Transforming Hawaii,” “Gun Tracking” and “The Music of Lost.” Season four of Lost may be found in stores on December 9.
Speed Racer mockumentary hits Target
SCI FI Wire has learned via Speed Racer producer Joel Silver that Target stores will sell a 20-minute documentary focusing on the characters in the Wachowski brothers’ film. Silver explains, “It’s a 20-minute documentary about the Racer family, with all the cast as the characters, not as the actors. It’s a mockumentary, and it’s great. And that’ll be lengthened for the DVD.”
Spiderwick Chronicles DVD artwork
DVDActive delivers the cover artwork for the one-disc and two-disc DVD editions of The Spiderwick Chronicles. At this time, bonus features for both packages have yet to be revealed. Directed by Mark Waters, Spiderwick Chronicles stars Freddie Highmore, Sarah Bolger, David Strathairn and Mary-Louise Parker, while featuring the voices of Martin Short and Seth Rogen. The film will be available to own on June 24.
Star Trek second season coming to DVD
Paramount Home Entertainment has unveiled the artwork for the 2nd season of the remastered Star Trek: The Original Series, reports DVDActive. Containing eight discs and 26 episodes, the package will be released on August 5. Bonus features for the Star Trek set will include: 9 featurettes, bonus Tribble episodes (Star Trek: The Animated Series “More Tribbles, More Troubles”, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine “Trials and Tribble-ations”), Billy Blackburn’s never before seen on-set home videos, and original preview trailers for every episode.
Bloodgood to play female lead in Terminator 4
Moon Bloodgood (NBC’s Journeyman) will play the female lead in the fourth installment of the Terminator franchise, writes Yahoo!/Reuters. “Bloodgood will play a no-nonsense and battle-hardened member of the resistance who is carrying a lot of guilt over surviving the nuclear holocaust.” Other cast members for the Terminator sequel include Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin.

DVDActive has the announcement from Warner Home Video that Sinatra will arrive on DVD this May 13th. Starring Phillip Casnoff, Olympia Dukakis, and Gina Gershon, the critically acclaimed 1992 television miniseries was helmed by James Steven Sadwith. At this time, it appears no extra material will be included with the 2-disc Collector’s Edition set.
Blockbuster bids for Circuit City
Blockbuster is attempting to purchase electronics chain Circuit City, informs Variety. The cash offer of $6 - $8 a share was made February 17, only now becoming public because Blockbuster wants Circuit City shareholders to weigh-in on the matter. The response from Circuit City is that it will “carefully consider and evaluate” the offer, while adding that “fundamental questions” remain. Among those questions is the matter of how Blockbuster will fund the $1 billion acquisition.
Grace Is Gone DVD coming May 27
From Genius Products and The Weinstein Company, Grace Is Gone will enter stores on May 27th. While special features for the disc have yet to be unveiled, its cover artwork may be viewed at DVDActive. Directed by James C. Strouse, Grace Is Gone stars John Cusack, Alessandro Nivola, Gracie Bednarczyk, and Shélan O’Keefe.
Marvel Heroes Collection announced
Fox Home Entertainment will release Marvel Heroes Collection on May 13, says DVDActive. The set will include X-Men, X2: X-Men United Special Edition, X-Men 3: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes - Volume 1, Elektra and Daredevil DVDs. A Marvel exclusive flipbook and CD-Rom comic The Origin of the Silver Surfer will also be combined with the package.
Be Kind Rewind DVD details
DVDActive carries the lowdown on what one may expect from the Be Kind Rewind DVD . The disc will offer anamorphic widescreen and full screen presentations of the Michel Gondry film. At this time, it appears the only bonus feature to be found on the Rewind DVD will be a behind-the-scenes featurette. Starring Jack Black, Mos Def and Danny Glover. Be Kind Rewind will enter stores on June 17.
Cast revealed for Vacancy 2
Moviehole unveils the cast for Vacancy 2, a prequel to the 2007 thriller starring Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale. Joining the project are David Moscow (Big), Agnes Bruckner (Blood and Chocolate), Nelson Lee (Blade: The Series), Brian Klugman (Cloverfield), Gwendoline Yeo (The Jane Austen Book Club) and Lola Davidson (The Caretaker). Directed by Eric Bross, Vacancy 2 “sees a new bunch of characters – including a bride and groom - booking rooms at the motel from hell.”
RIP, Charlton Heston (1923-2008)
Charlton Heston died Saturday night, at the age of 84. While an official cause of his death has yet to be released, the actor revealed in 2002 that he was battling Alzheimer’s disease.
The respected thespian, likewise known as a civil rights leader and political activist, was born October 4, 1923, in Evanston, Ill. Following a Broadway debut opposite legendary stage actress Katharine Cornell in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, Heston found steady work in television.
He eventually starred in theatrical films, where he claimed his most well-known roles. The actor provided celebrated performances in such classics as The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), The Ten Commandments (1956), Touch of Evil (1958), The Big Country (1958), Ben-Hur (1959), El Cid (1961), Major Dundee (1965), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), The War Lord (1965) and Planet of the Apes (1968). Among his numerous awards, the actor received two Academy Award honors: one for his turn as Judah Ben-Hur and a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

To coincide with the theatrical release of the Steve Carell Get Smart update, Universal Home Video will release The Nude Bomb to DVD on June 17th. Hailed by its DVD artwork as “the original Get Smart movie,” the 1980 feature stars Don Adams, Sylvia Kristel, and Rhonda Fleming. No bonus material will be included with the Bomb DVD. Bucket List DVD, Blu-ray coming in June
Warner Home Video has announced, via DVDActive, the DVD and Blu-ray releases for The Bucket List, starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Bonus features for the DVD will include a “Writing The Bucket List” featurette and a music video for John Mayer’s “Say.” The Blu-ray disc will contain those extras plus an additional interactive trivia track, a making of the John Mayer music video featurette, and a “Rob Reiner Interviews Stars of The Bucket List” feature. The hit comedy/drama will enter stores on June 10th.
Goyer talks Dark City re-release
Writer David Goyer gives Bloody-Disgusting an update on the re-release of Alex Proyas’ Dark City. “It’s coming out fairly soon [and will] probably have limited theatrical, but I’m not sure,” he comments. Goyer also notes that in addition to visual effects upgrades, City will have a new score and a longer running time.
Batman: The Movie Blu-ray artwork
DVDActive offers the details for the Blu-ray release of Batman: The Movie. The “Special Edition” package will contain: a commentary by actors Adam West and Burt Ward; a commentary by screenwriter Lorenzo Semple, Jr.; an isolated score track DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1; “Batman: A Dynamic Legacy”; “Caped Crusaders: A Heroes Tribute”; “Gotham City’s Most Wanted”; a 2001 35th anniversary piece featuring interviews with Adam West and Burt Ward; “The Batmobile Revealed” with George Barris; a Batmobile interactive tour; a 360 degree navigational tour; “Batman on Location: Mapping the Movie”; “Holy Pop-Up Trivia Track, Batman!”; and original teaser and theatrical trailers. Batman: The Movie will arrive in stores on July 1st.
Chipmunks sets DVD record for 2008
Fox Home Entertainment’s Alvin and the Chipmunks sold well enough in its DVD debut last Tuesday that it has become the fastest selling DVD of 2008, according to Variety. Selling over 2.6 million copies, the title outpaced first-day numbers for other top discs such as I Am Legend and Enchanted. Alvin and the Chipmunks collected more than $350 million at the worldwide box office.
Asylum to release Allan Quatermain
To coincide with the theatrical release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Asylum (Transmorphers, Snakes on a Train) is preparing Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Skulls. /Film presents the trailer for the direct-to-video feature, coming to stores this April 29.
