Speed 3 site found to be a prank
SlashFilm uncovers the truth concerning a teaser website for a supposed new Speed movie. Both Speed 3: Ignition and its site were confirmed by 20th Century Fox to be false. Still online, the Speed sequel’s page reveals Sandra Bullock stuck in a Virgin Galactic consumer space-travel spacecraft, with the fake film slated for summer 2009.
Wild Things part of ‘complicated birthing process’
Film editor James Haygood discloses to Film & Video his experience working on Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are adaptation. “I just spent the last year on it. It is an amazing project. Like all of Spike’s projects, there’s a complicated birthing process. But it’s a real special, one-of-a-kind thing,” says Haygood. “That was really fun, and it’s still going. I may go back for a couple months. They’ve gone on hiatus to shoot a couple things and write some stuff, so post-production took a break. I really look forward to seeing how that all comes together.” The editor’s words follow months of speculation regarding whether Warner Bros. would allow Jonze’s vision for the film to remain.
Lost: Fourth Season coming to stores in December
Walt Disney Home Entertainment has unveiled its DVD and Blu-ray plans for Lost: The Complete Fourth Season - The Expanded Experience, as reported by DVDActive. The sets will contain the following bonus features: bloopers, audio commentaries, deleted scenes, “Lost on Location,” “Freighter Folk,” “Transforming Hawaii,” “Gun Tracking” and “The Music of Lost.” Season four of Lost may be found in stores on December 9.
Speed Racer mockumentary hits Target
SCI FI Wire has learned via Speed Racer producer Joel Silver that Target stores will sell a 20-minute documentary focusing on the characters in the Wachowski brothers’ film. Silver explains, “It’s a 20-minute documentary about the Racer family, with all the cast as the characters, not as the actors. It’s a mockumentary, and it’s great. And that’ll be lengthened for the DVD.”
Spiderwick Chronicles DVD artwork
DVDActive delivers the cover artwork for the one-disc and two-disc DVD editions of The Spiderwick Chronicles. At this time, bonus features for both packages have yet to be revealed. Directed by Mark Waters, Spiderwick Chronicles stars Freddie Highmore, Sarah Bolger, David Strathairn and Mary-Louise Parker, while featuring the voices of Martin Short and Seth Rogen. The film will be available to own on June 24.
Brown Jr., Michelle are Fast & Furious
Moviehole reports that Neil Brown Jr. (Never Back Down) and Mirtha Michelle (Dead Reckoning) have joined the cast of Fast & Furious, the fourth installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise. Brown Jr. will play Malik, described as “a smug rev-head that’s hell-bent on cleaning the floor – or rather, road – with Dominic Torreto (and his Chevele), having heard so much about the king-of-the-road from his younger brother.” Michelle will portray a character named Cara.
Reeves takes Woman over Cloverfield
With MTV Movies Blog, Matt Reeves shares the news that his Cloverfield sequel has been placed on the back burner. Instead, the director will focus on The Invisible Woman. “It’s kind of a Hitchcockian thriller, in the vein of Marnie, about this woman that gets so desperate to save her family, that she goes to crazy lengths and enters a life of crime. It’s a very, very psychological thriller, but then it’s a lot of fun,” elaborates Reeves.
Ricci ready for Speed Racer sequel
Christina Ricci tells Coming Soon that she is ready for a second Speed Racer flick. “Larry and Andy [Wachowski] created a world that they love and created characters that they loved and are attached to. When we were all leaving, we were like ‘write the sequel!’ ‘We want to come back.’ And they were like, ‘I know. I know. We’re going to. Don’t worry,’” says Ricci, who plays Trixie, Speed’s girlfriend in the picture.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows release date
Coming Soon has learned when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I will arrive in theaters. Apparently Potter fans should mark their calendars for November 19, 2010. At this time, Deathly Hallows: Part I is the only movie scheduled for that date.
McGregor, Zurer confront Demons
Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer will star opposite Tom Hanks in Columbia Pictures’ Da Vinci Code prequel Angels & Demons, says Variety. Ewan McGregor is “in talks” to join the thriller based on the Dan Brown best-seller. If McGregor agrees to do the film, he will portray a powerful Vatican insider who assists religious art scholar Robert Langdon (Hanks). Director Ron Howard will re-team with his Da Vinci Code screenwriter Akiva Goldsman for Demons.
Warner Independent captures Arsonist
For Warner Independent Pictures, House executive producers Garrett Lerner and Russel Friend will adapt Brock Clarke’s best-seller An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the dark comedy “centers on Sam Pulsifer, a man who accidentally burns down Emily Dickinson’s home and kills two people in the process. After 10 years in prison and a series of personal and professional disasters, he returns home to live with his parents, only to discover that he’s suspected in a series of nearby fires at historical landmarks.” John Wells and Claire Rudnick Polstein will produce the pic, with Lisa Morales executive producing.
Snipes sentenced to three years in prison
On Thursday, Judge William Terrell Hodges of Federal District Court sentenced actor Wesley Snipes to three years in prison for willfully failing to file tax returns. Snipes received one year for each count, to be served consecutively, and an additional year of probation. A member of his legal team stated that they would appeal the judge’s decision. Dark Knight “World without Rules” poster
As part of the film’s viral campaign, a brand-new poster for The Dark Knight has been unveiled at WhySoSerious.com. Interestingly, the page leading to the poster hints “Four days.” Could a new trailer for the Batman Begins sequel be arriving soon online? In the meantime, Coming Soon has a high-res version of the latest Dark Knight one-sheet, which declares “Welcome to a World without Rules.”
Del Toro confirmed for Hobbit films
Variety confirms that Guillermo del Toro will direct New Line/MGM’s The Hobbit and its sequel, a film that will bridge the 60-year gap between Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The announcement was made by executive producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, New Line president Toby Emmerich, and MGM Worldwide Motion Picture Group chief Mary Parent.
Jimmy Fallon, the next host of Late Night
Fox News reports that former Saturday Night Live cast member Jimmy Fallon will replace Conan O’Brien as the host of Late Night in May 2009. Fallon has yet to choose a producer and a band for his series. As for O’Brien, he will take Jay Leno’s spot as the host of The Tonight Show.
New Hancock trailer!
During last night’s American Idol, Sony Pictures Entertainment premiered a brand-new sneak peek at Hancock. SlashFilm presents the trailer for the Will Smith action/comedy. Directed by Peter Berg, Hancock will open in theaters nationwide on July 2nd.

Gore to tell another Inconvenient Truth
The Hindu reports that Al Gore is planning a sequel to his Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. “I have to say the situation has not improved since I made the movie in 2006. Sure, awareness has grown and more people are concerned since scientists said we had just ten years to take action to halt rising sea levels,” explained the former U.S. Vice President. “But the situation has got worse. The entire North Polar ice cap is melting and could be gone in some areas in as little as five years.”
Producer Johnson talks fourth Narnia feature
Producer Mark Johnson tells MTV Movies Blog that he has a list of potential directors for the fourth Chronicles of Narnia installment, The Silver Chair. As with the Harry Potter movies, Johnson believes each picture could be helmed by a different filmmaker. However, there has recently been talk that Disney and Walden Media’s Narnia film franchise may end with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Fraser to return for Mummy 4?
With MTV Movies Blog, Brendan Fraser shares his Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor co-star Maria Bello’s enthusiasm for a fourth adventure in the franchise. “There are many, many possibilities,” imagines Fraser. “There are so many archaeological rich cultures in the world that have yet to be unearthed, who’s to say we couldn’t go to the mountains of Peru?”
