Warner Bros. eyes Akira franchise
According to Variety, Warner Bros. will turn anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s six-volume graphic novel Akira into two live-action feature films. The first picture, to be based on the first three books of the series, is being aimed for summer 2009. Ruairi Robinson will direct a script by Gary Whitta. Andrew Lazar’s Mad Chance will produce the Akira movies alongside Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson.
